On June 8, 1953, an F5 tornado devastated the north side of Flint, Michigan and the suburb of Beecher, killing 116 people and injuring 844 others. The tornado touched down at 8:30 p.m., cutting an 18.6-mile path of destruction through densely populated neighborhoods where residents had almost no warning beyond seeing the massive black funnel approaching.
